Updating Systems to Run New Jersey's Statewide Public Transportation

 

The Client

NJ Transit. New Jersey's statewide public transportation corporation, NJ Transit, serves nearly 224 million passenger trips each year. It includes more than 400,000 daily riders on a bus, light rail and commuter rail network that covers a service area of 5,325 square miles. NJ Transit's Police Force is the only transit policing agency in the country with statewide authority and jurisdiction. 

 

The Project

NJ Transit operations are distributed at various facilities throughout the state, and also interface with numerous federal, state and local agencies. NJ Transit wanted to implement new systems used across the state for Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management (RMS, Mobile Data Computing System (MDCS) and Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system.  

 

RCC's Role

RCC provided many important services for NJ Transit during this project, including:

 

  • Identified functional system requirements for CAD, RMS, MDCS and AVL systems
  • Developed detailed and structured RFP document.
  • Assisted in vendor selection.
  • Provided implementation support for all systems.
