Case Study: Chesterfield County Emergency Communications CenterDesigning a Countywide Center and its Mission-Critical Systems

Chesterfield County, Virginia.

 

The Project

Chesterfield County constructed a new Emergency Communications Center to serve as the County’s public safety answering point and combined police, fire, and EMS communications center. The Center houses 28 call-operators and dispatchers and processes 600,000 annual calls for service.

 

RCC's Role

RCC provided many important services for the Chesterfield County project, including:

 

  • Providing program planning, schematic design, detailed design and construction management of the Center.
  • Design and implementation of mobile data and automatic vehicle location systems.

  • Developing specifications for and supervising implementation of new E 9-1-1 telephone equipment capable of receiving wireless 9-1-1 calls.
  • Providing procurement assistance, including acting as the County’s agent during the procurement process.
  • Providing technical consulting, program management and implementation support of a countywide 800 MHz 20 Channel, 8-site digital trunked simulcast public safety and public services radio system.
